The Natchez Pick-Me-Up

At the peak of King Cotton’s reign, Natchez boasted the highest concentration of millionaires in the nation, and today, the planters’ grand mansions and palatial homes make this historic city a global tourism star. And no trip to Natchez is complete without a visit to Concordia.

Concordia takes visitors behind the scenes of King Cotton’s empire, serving up a fascinating glimpse of the people, culture and legendary music of the region. Concordia is a Natchez getaway that gets you deep into rich history and inviting relaxation. Here are a few highlights you’ll want to hit:

Pick a bale of fascinating history

Frogmore Plantation

No, you don't have to pick cotton, but it's there if you want to...This 1800-acre working cotton plantation that’s also a living history site offers a one-of-a-kind cultural and educational experience, allowing visitors to explore the evolution of cotton farming from Frogmore’s beginnings in the early 1800s through the dramatic changes of the Civil War all the way to today’s computerized ginning operation processing 900 bales per day. Frogmore’s dynamic tours give visitors an immersive sense of place with furnished slave quarters and a rare steam gin.  (A separate Plantation Civil War tour featuring live music is also available.) Frogmore has been featured in a PBS documentary and highlighted in numerous magazines including Southern Living. It was also named a Rand McNally “Must See Site” in the South/Southeast and designated by AAA Southern Traveler Magazine as one of the top three sites in the Arkansas-Louisiana-Mississippi area.

Pick up musical lore and knowledge

Delta Music Museum

The blues were born in the cotton rows of the Mississippi River Delta, and Concordia’s association with the blues is deep and rich as the former home of the legendary Haney’s Big House club.  Of course the blues gave rise to rock and roll and musicians like Jerry Lee Lewis, a Ferriday native. Lewis and his cousin Mickey Gilley, also from Ferriday, are just two of the musical stars whose lives and works are featured in the Delta Music Museum, located adjacent to the restored Arcade Theatre in Ferriday’s historic downtown.

Pick up your spirits with a Day Spa experience

All the beautifully manicured mansions of Natchez often put visitors in the mood for personal pampering. Vidalia’s Riverfront Royale spa services include everything from facials and body wraps to medical spa treatments such as Botox. Concordia is the place to relax and rejuvenate.
